Today 12^th December 2022, Hon. GASANA Alfred, the Minister of Interior (MININTER) and Mr. Nikhil Seth, the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) and Executive Director of the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which took place at MININTER’s offices in Kigali.

The signed MoU will focus on a number of identified thematic work areas including among others  core pre-deployment training of police officers and correctional officers on peace keeping  operations, capacity building in combatting illegal small arms and light weapons, protection of civilians, child protection, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuses, conflict related sexual violence and  senior leadership.

During the signing ceremony, the UNITAR Executive Director commended the way Rwanda has managed effectively its own internal security, and currently extended it to the entire continent.  He also said that the signed MoU will further strengthen the relationship between Rwanda and UNITAR.

The Minister of Interior, remarked that UNITAR has been a key partner in providing high-quality learning solutions to our security and correctional forces through capacity building which extremely contributes to their success wherever they are deployed.

He also reiterated that Rwanda is committed to the implementation of the signed MoU and to the sustainable partnership with UNITAR.
