HON. GASANA ALFRED, MINISTER OF INTERIOR CALLS ON COUNTRIES TO PUT EFFORTS TOGETHER TO REDUCE THE ILLICIT ARMS FLOWS THAT FEED CONFLICTS
On 10th March 2022, Hon. GASANA Alfred, Minister of Interior of the Republic of Rwanda officiated at the opening of a two-day Awareness Workshop in Rwanda organized by Regional Centre for Small Arms and Light Weapons (RECSA) on the ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in partnership with ATT secretariat.
In his remarks, Hon. GASANA Alfred recalled that illicit trafficking and use of arms and ammunition remains a big challenge to national, regional and global peace and security.
He added that the proliferation of illicit arms allows criminal organizations and terrorist groups to operate easily across the region and beyond which constitutes a threat and undermines peace and security.
He called upon countries to put efforts together to reduce the illicit arms flows that feed conflicts and divert resources to achieve sustainable development.
